A Japanese garden should be kept simple and natural. The basic elements used are stone, plants, and water. Plants are used sparingly and carefully chosen: you don't see lush flower borders or succulents in a Japanese-style landscape. While it's true that you own the landscape and can do anything you want with the space, there are simple. This is the first book by Sally Gardner that I read, though Ive heard (from Ella) that she is pretty well-known as an author of childrens and young adult books, and I can very well believe that; her characters are authentic and realistic, the voice of her main character, AJ, is enjoyable, and the plot of this book is tight and tense, even /5.
